On Tuesday, Mercedes held an investor conference call to announce its new global strategy. As part of the strategy, Mercedes has clarified the development trend of the electrification of its civilian vehicles, which will include the release and integration of a series of electric vehicles, and will focus on promoting the development of its sub-brands-Maimach, G, EQ and AMG.
Honda’s announcement that it will withdraw from F1 at the end of 2021 due to the electrification trend will greatly shake the sport. Mercedes' move is aimed at stabilizing outside world expectations for its presence in F1.
At present, the high-performance sub-brand of Mercedes-AMG focuses on improving the performance of Mercedes terminal products. According to the group CEO Kang Linsong, the commercial cooperation between AMG and the F1 team will be further strengthened, and the technology will be strengthened. The conversion of racing technology to civilian car technology, the AMG logo will also be more conspicuous on F1 racing cars.
Mercedes CEO Kang Linsong confirmed that the future AMG brand civilian cars will use more F1 technology. "Through Project One, we have transplanted the power chain of F1 to civilian cars. It will be very natural for F1's technology to serve AMG more," Kang Linsong identified.
The biggest challenge faced by traditional automakers is electrification. Honda decided to withdraw from F1 based on this consideration. Mercedes clarified the value of F1 sports in the future technical challenges. Mercedes will also use the infrastructure of the current F1 team to push civilian vehicle technology to a new level.
In the investor conference call, Mercedes put forward the vision of "EQXX Technology Project", trying to release more series of electric vehicles based on the existing battery technology. Mercedes has set up a special working group at its Stuttgart headquarters. In the future, experts from the British Brickworth F1 high-performance power chain department will be called to implement the EQXX project.
